Are you talking full sized SUV, or more of a CUV (which is how I think of
"Crossover")? I think the big difference between the 2 is
SUV - room for 7 or so, or at least an "Optional 3rd Row"
CUV - seats 5, decent space for cargo
Because right now we're looking at vehicles in the CUV range to replace our Ford Fusion. I work from home, so my wife is the one who commutes. She'll generally take the better mileage of our 2 vehicles (the other is a GMC Acadia), so she's driving the Ford usually.
But she was raised on SUVs in her family and wants to sit higher. So the car will likely be replaced by a CUV.
There are a lot of good options in this category, and they offer better mileage than a full SUV. The ones that have caught my eye are the Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester and Subaru Cross Trek (might be too small). We'll also look at Toyota Rav 4, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape (a hybrid option without it being a ton more than base) and maybe some others.
